Hibi Chouchou - Review

[ Manga Review] - 无口之恋- Hibi ChouChou

Written by Morishita Suu

STATUS:ongoing
CHAPTER: 18
GENRE: school life, romance

Summary(from MangaHere):

From Day of the River: Upon entering high school, the very quiet but extremely cute Suiren becomes the immediate center of attention among the boys…but one particular boy does not look her way.The story of a quiet girl and a quiet boy. A short, refreshing love story.

Review:

Well it is hard for a story to go anywhere especially when both of the main characters are <extremely> shy.The main girl, Takane Suiren is one of the most emotionless character "ever". It was nice that she isn’t those whiny and  attention deficit heroine but the fact that she hardly ever speaks is agonizing .She just stares at the main guy is a ver creepy manner *shivers* . The guy one the other hand (Kawasumi) is not as bad as her but he is shy alright. The story is slow-paced and is just filled with lots of cute moments. There’s nothing wrong with indulging with romance manga every now and then so go check it out.

Overall score- 7/10

[Manga Review] - おバカちゃん- Obakachan, Koikatariki

Written by Sato Zakuri

Status: ongoing
Chapters: 24
Genre: Romance, School life, Comedy, Shoujo

Summary (MangaReader) :
From Shinnen: Since childhood, Neiro has been known for being good at fighting, making people fear her and giving her the title of Kansai s strongest woman. Wanting to find romance, she decides to transfer to a highschool in Kantou. Instead, what faced her was a specially assembled class of delinquents.

Review :
When I happened to read this manga I couldn't stop laughing .
The plot isn't all that complex, in fact its pretty common. Super strong girl, sick of being thought of as a rough girl (Oresama Teacher anyone ? ), transfers to another school in search of love.It must me the epitome of Shoujo comedy alright -.-

The heroin is by far the best projected character , she acts so strong and funny, I like her the best, yayee. She is not weak, crying in a corner, or calling in her mind a guy to save her. There was just this once where I was very irritated with her - she gets paint in her hair and cuts it. WHY CUT IT? There is NO need to cut your hair. Just put it up and wash it out when you get home- its not the end of the world. I know its the authors who wish to be dramatic but My god.

The art style has grown on me, mostly since it fits the humorous actions of the characters quite well, and the way Zakuri is goofing off with it is hilarious.
Definitely one of my favorites, couldn't stop laughing like a sap, doki doki.

Every manga person knows about the "omurice" . Was fooling about a bit, found this recipe. Trust me, it tastes better than it looks

SUMMARY(from MangaFox)
"Do you believe in magic?"

A rumor goes around school about an abandoned amusement park and a magician who lives there that can make someone disappear for good. Yoon Ai, a very smart girl in her class, struggles to feed herself and her sister everyday. She just wants to become an adult faster so that she can escape from the poverty and the reality of her current situation. One day, her life changes as she meets a childish magician who asks her: "Do you believe in magic?"

REVIEW :

This was the first manhwa (Korean manga)- slash-webtoon that I read.Yes, I was a little skeptical at reading it first because the cover is, err.. not that appealing. But this was one tear jerker. The drawing was really good. And the Magician guy was mmm - HOT. And the girl is not annoying or nerve tensing at all and you can completely bear with her *drums roll* .Though the main character, Ai, admits that she is now a boring adult ,she has not fully given up on following her own path. I think this is the case for many of us as well; we have dreams and passions but we don’t know how we can slip them into the world we live in.  You absolutely got to read this if you haven't already. Yada yada  I should stop giving out any more spoilers, tehehe.
And i still can spell Annarasumanara. I mean what is it in the first place ? Korean for Abracadabra maybe ? :o

Overall score - a 9/10 maybe :)

Summary:
From Sound of Jewels:

Everyone loves Arishige's smile but Mioko has a strange feeling about it. And then, she will discover what Arishige is hiding behind it...

Review :
I have no clue how I found this manga. If you have any objections about gay relations, DON'T READ IT.

I had mixed feelings about it at the end. I pictured romantic encounter and love rivals when I first saw the cover. But this is definitely a very rare story. Read it if you are adventurous enough. It kind of cliff hangs the readers at the end. I think that they're completely friend zoned at the end. Arishige's claim in the last chapter clears up the fact that he is gay. What I think is, that neither Mioko's love for Arishige and Arishige's love for Asaba are completely dissolved in the end. But this definitely ain't shoujo - took me quite some time to figure that out.

Overall score - 9/10 for individuality of the story

Review - Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji

Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji

STATUS : Ongoing
CHAPTERS : 17
GENRE- comedy, romance, school life, shoujo

Summary (MangaFox): Erika lied to her friends about having a boyfriend by showing a picture of an anonymous guy who turned out to be a a schoolmate of hers and was shortly recognized by her friends. Their conversations then was overheard by the guy, Sata Kyouya. Erika went to explain and proposed her idea of faking as lovers. However, Sata who gave off the nice-charming feelings guy turns out to be a black prince and used her reasons to blackmail her instead.

REVIEW :

Hot guy alert >.< . Really.
Plot twist : Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji has a masochist and a sadist for leads [for real]. For a shoujo, it can be quite frightening. I confess that there are times where I felt disturbed because I was enjoying this even if I feel that it pushes itself a little too far. That said, this story has made me believe that sometimes being an idiot can even soften the heart of the coldest man [hahaha \(^.^)/].At the beginning he doesn't seem to believe in love but then he gradually starts to open his heart to Erika. Because his nature is normally cold and bad at expressing feelings I never expected him to change at all. He was like a heartless jerk in the beginning but Erika's but idiocy makes up for it . A very odd shoujo plot.I love this for that reason and it has been executed well enough for me to appreciate this odd couple. Also, Sata Kyouya is hot. Very hot.
Points for the hot guys -.-

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time - movie review

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time - 時をかける少女

Directed by - Mamoru Hosoda

RUN TIME - 99:80 minutes
GENRE - Sci-fic, adventure , romance, school life

Okay so if you have not watched it already, its alright because I didn't know about it until recently. :P
It is a really good movie, not to fast, a little funny at times. Great plot and if your into sci-fiction, you are in for a treat. And even if you are not just watch it. I put the link above :D
Summary in Wiki -

Seventeen-year-old Makoto Konno lives with her family in the Shitamachi area of Tokyo, Japan. One day, when Makoto discovers a message written on a blackboard at her high school, she inadvertently falls upon a mysterious, walnut-shaped object. On her way home, Makoto is ejected into a railroad crossing when the brakes on her bicycle fail and is struck by a train. She is transported a few minutes back in time to before the accident. Kazuko explains to Makoto that she has the power to "time-leap", to literally leap through time. At first, Makoto uses her power extravagantly to avoid being late, to get perfect grades on tests, and even relive a single karaoke session for an entire hour, but Makoto soon discovers that her actions can adversely affect others.
Makoto ends up using up most of her leaps frivolously, to prevent undesirable situations from happening, including an awkward love confession from her best friend Chiaki Mamiya. Makoto eventually discovers a numbered tattoo on her arm which counts down. She determines that the tattoo indicates that she can only time leap a limited number of times. Using her remaining time leaps, Makoto attempts to make things right for everyone. Makoto impulsively uses her final leap to prevent a phone call from Chiaki asking if she knows about time-leaping. Due to this, she arrives too late to prevent her friend Kōsuke Tsuda  and his new girlfriend, Kaho Fujitani, from being struck by a train when they borrow her faulty bike.

Review :
Two words. Freaking Brilliant! I would sort of provide a summary for you but I would recommend to just wing it. Do it like me. I didn't know what it was about when I gave it a go. I LOVE IT.

Summary From MangaFox

A mysterious, lethal disease is on the loose worldwide, resulting in a catastrophic death rate of humanity, and an increasing rise of attacks caused by the living dead.

The group now faces the greatest struggle of their young lives: attempting to survive the present apocalypse.

REVIEW:

If you are easily offended by upskirt shots, nudity, unrealistic battle scenes, and oversized breasts, this
is not the anime for you. The sheer amount of fan service is rather distracting from the scenario. There are several scenes involving a plethora of women that just seem unnecessary and unrealistic. Definitely a Shounen, HOTD is not for the weak hearted.
I loved reading it, Zombies are my favorite thing and here it was. I read passionately, up until *bang* that two year hiatus. They had only done, like, seventeen chapters and then we where left hanging. Then it came back, had a few chapters and poof! gone again. There is relationship drama, a love triangle once upon a time, genuinely sad moment, and scary moments. One more thing to add, there is no nudity, it uses the Naruto cloud effect to hide "Things". When I first read it I thought it was the greatest thing ever, it was afterall the only Zombie manga at the time that had real zombies. I still think it's great.

The only thing that I have against the manga is what I said above (hiatus). It is one of the few manga that is still entertaining when you reread it.

Defiantly not your average day at school scenario. And you are in for a lot of booby-vibes.

The basic premise in a nutshell: Kick some zombie ass while boobs jiggle mercilessly. It could have just had mindless zombie fights and worthless fanservice but it had even more going for it. The characters are fun, if not grating at times and manage to grab our attention in many different ways. All in all, i was surprised at how entertaining H.O.T.D was and how disappointed i am with the stagnation of the series.

Bokura Ga Ita - Review

[MANGA REVIEW] 僕等がいた -Bokura ga Ita(We were there )

Written by - Yuki Obata

Status :Completed
Chapters - 70
Genere - Drama , Romance, Shoujo, Slice of Life

This is definitely one of my all time favorite especially when I want to sit down for a good cry ( no I am not a sadist :P ). I feel that this was pretty much under-rated *nom-nom*. NOTE : Guaranteed to make you cry and a little longish.

Summary (from Mangareader)

The start of high school life. To the girls, that also meant the start of their love lives. For brand new first year student, Takahashi Nanami (Nana for short), it was no different... She happens to end up in the same class as the incredibly popular Yano Motoharu, who rumors say that two thirds of all the girls are guaranteed to fall in love with. But will that hold true for Nana, who says that if she had to choose between like or dislike, she'd say she dislikes him!?

Review:

"If you were on a boat with two people and that boat were about to sink, who would you save? The one you like more? The one who's prettier? Or the one who's nicer?”

someone ask you that question, who are you going to choose between the one you love or the one who needed you so badly?

This question lies within the shoujo manga entitled Bokura Ga Ita which literally means ‘We were there’ in English.

Bokura Ga Ita tells the bitter-sweet love story between a highschool student girl named Nanami Takahashi and the most popular guy in their school, Yano Motoharu. Their sorta budding relationship turns into a serious type one though it’s not easily maintainable. Yano’s past and the complex emotion they bring up makes it difficult for the two to be completely honest about how their feelings for each other. Nanami and Yano must face challenges including jealousy, distance, secrets, third parties, insecurities and many more obstacles before they lead in to supposedly happy ending…

… Or maybe not.

I love bokura ga ita because the flow of the story is oh so true. The story can be really happened in a person's love life and i can relate into it.

The artwork is not really outstanding and fantastic though it can still be considered as adorable and cute. However, the manga covers are definitely captivating, creating a refreshing and seemingly simple feel akin to it.

Yano initially comes off as your typical cool, friendly, class clown who has a nice head on his shoulders and who everyone loves, causing him to be the the heart throb of his class. Nana-chan may as well be the exact opposite of who one would initially think a guy like Yano would be interested in. She isn’t very smart ( well to make it easier - she is stupid), and she starts out disliking Yano because she thinks he’s a haughty jerk. However, she slowly finds herself falling for him and wanting to help him as she gets a little taste of the emotional turmoil he is still in after the passing of his first love, Nana, who died before the start of the story in a car accident with her ex-boyfriend, who was strongly hinted at being less than friendly with her.

Yano’s conflicting feelings cause a lot of trouble for Nana-chan since he always seems to be getting caught up in some drama or another with Nana’s family and their affairs, leaving behind Nana-chan which causes a lot of frustration on her part. However, Yano isn’t the only one with problems. Nana-chan does have issues of her own. Because of all the crap with Yano, she was often indecisive and, especially near the end of the series, unconfident in her abilities as Yano’s girlfriend, leading her to let their fights drag on because she is a really stubborn person, only causing more pain to both parties.

It is the epitome of a shoujo manga. Love rivals - check. heart wrenching moments - Check. Unending drama- Double check.

Looking at Nana-chan and Yano as a couple, though, I have to say, sometimes, I was wondering what was even holding them together. Yano’s problems with the past in the first half and Nana’s lack of confidence in the second half caused a lot of rocky moments where I was, honestly, curious as to why they were even together if they were just going to cause each other pain and suffering and tears. Take, Yano’s best friend, told Nana somewhere near the start of the series that a relationship full of pain and tears is not one they should maintain and continue, and I agree with him….to a point.

Overall, I enjoyed Bokura ga Ita a great deal. and the many moments when I cried like there was no tomorrow. I did like the ending because it ended in a spot where their future looked hopeful which was nice because I know how terrible it gets latter on. I think the ending is perfect in the sense that everything comes together and everyone can go home with a sense of relief and happiness because, in the end, everything worked out. However, I’m not necessarily clamoring for an animated end because I don’t really want to sit and watch the characters I’ve grown to like and support go through all the crap they do latter on, so, in many ways, I am content with how things ended.

Overall Score: 10/10 - a winner *wink wink*

Review - Strobe Edge

[MANGA REVIEW] ストロボ・エッジ Strobe Edge

Strobe Edge by Sakisaka Io

Status: Completed
Chapters: 39
Genres: Comedy, Drama, Romance, School Life, Shoujo, Slice Of Life
Summary (from MangaReader):
Ninako is a meek, gentle high school student. She has never been in love. Ninako asks Daiki, who has emotions towards her, about what being in love feels like. She thinks he is a good guy but…? One day, on the train home from school, she bumps into Ren, a popular guy at school. With just a short conversation and his smile, she experiences a new feeling. Just what is this feeling…!? Ninako’s first love is starting!
Review:
A first glance, it looks like your average shoujo where there's a really naive girl who hasn't fallen in love in her whole life and suddenly this hot guy appears and it suddenly sparks her interest. And wow a love triangle involving a childhood friend; sound original? No not really. A lot of people at this point would probably go search to read another manga at this point...
Although there are major cliches in this story, there aren't many plot holes and the characters were portrayed very realistically in this "it only happens in shoujo manga land" kind of situation. Reading this manga made me realise that the characters are very important to a story; maybe even more so.

Ninako is seen as this pretty naive girl who has absolutely 0% in love but fate suddenly decides to change this and put her on this wild, emotional roller coaster. The way she handles her situation makes her really likeable and realistic (if such a girl existed). Throughout the manga, she keeps true to her feelings and she isn't the type to think:
OMG which one of the hot guys do I like? Hot guy #1 or hot guy #2?
My life is so hard blah blah blah. -cries-
I think I like both of them!
No wait I like the mean one :D
She's a really strong character who always tries do what is right and make other people happy.

Ren (the main love interest) is what we call a really realistic looking hot guy XD
(Like his hair follows the rules of gravity).
He is described as:

A "...horribly awkward guy who's just now showing himself by having people who accept him... At heart, he's just a shy guy who had the misfortune of being good looking." - HashtheNash
The art is really nice and refreshingly different but it may not look too appealing on the cover
Also, I LOVE how the author chose to let Ninako and Ren’s relationship develop slowly, rather than the opposite. In a lot of shoujo series, the equivalents of these two characters will end up together a lot more quickly. But by delaying the start of Ninako and Ren’s relationship, it allows the author to show how Ninako learns what love really is, and for Ren to learn how to become a better boyfriend. So by the time both of them are ready to date, they are ready for a stable relationship with EACH OTHER, therby avoiding the majority of the angst that plagues less developed relationships. YAY!
Overall, Strobe Edge was well executed.
Not too bad!
Score: 8.0/10
+ : Characters actually WENT somewhere, relationships and motivations were solid, not forced.
